Helpful Review: I’ve had this Akai 27″ for over 1 1/2 years now, so my review is based on extensive use and long past the factory warranty.

It’s just as good as described by all the happy customers who’ve posted their comments here.
I don’t know what to add, except that after 20 months it’s still going strong.

The DVD player works fine, except of course it’s not as good quality as the more recent DVD players that have come out during the past year. Still, the convenience is wonderful, and the quality is as good as anything I’ve been watching for the past five years on DVD.

My only complaint would be that the sound cannot be turned up to a loud volume: small room volume only.

This TV/monitor is being used about 8 hours every day, and I could not be more pleased.

Ok, but dying after only 3 years – T. McDaniels – Central Texas, USA
I have had this tv for 3 years now and its on its last leg. The picture quality is good but other things are going out on it. The remote will not turn on the tv now, you have to turn off the main power button the turn it back on then push the side power button for it to come on. Then you have to wait for several minutes before you can adjust the volume. Also the screen is getting dark swirls on the left side. If I were to do it again I would not get this TV.

The Dvd player is not a very good one, I use another player and dont us the built in one very much at all. Picture quality is good, except for the black swirles. Sound is bad, so use different speakers.

This set is ready to die after only three years of use. What happened to the days where one could count on their TV to last between 10-20 years?

Akai TV Sucks – R. Just –
This piece of junk lasted 2.5 years. After about a year the screen quality degraded with black smears in various places. At 2.5 years it quit working completely. Since I paid about 0 for the piece of junk that’s a cost of 0/year. What a deal.

For the price… great – N. A. Shah – Atlanta, GA
I’ve had the TV for about a year and a half or more. The DVD player never worked from day one, so I’m not judging by that, I have an Up-Converter with HDMI anyways. But the TV is great. Picture quality is great, shows in 1080i (I have the 32 in), has HDMI input, and HD component cable input. My beefs with it are that it will randomly switch between mono and stereo sound, and I have yet a way to figure out how to make it stop. After about 9 months, you could here a small crackle in the sound every once in a while. And now, there is a dead/dying pixel. But honestly, for the price I paid for a 32 in HDTV…. phenomenal.

ps. The Start up takes a long time..

Don’t buy a Syntax Olevia! I bought one and it died almost to the day the warranty went out. Customer service said I would have to pay to ship it back and pay the parts and labor to fix it and that would cost over half of the TV’s cost. They wouldn’t offer to help with anything and they said they lost my registration card, the same one they used to call me with to ask me how I liked it a week after I bought the TV. So all I can do is to post this to every blog I can to try to inform others.

HDTV – P. Goulet – Western Massachusetts
Excellent tv for the price. Better than I expected, great picture, off angle view is the only drawback.I can live with it as it compares with more expensive sets.

Good TV for a lot less money – Dre – Houston, Texas United States
This has many pros and a few cons. Namely it is very inexpensive for the features it carries. The picture is very good and it does deliver sharp vivid colors. It has many features such as PIP Split screen and a QAM ATSC tuner.

The only two cons, as you might expect, is that it does not deliver the darkest blacks and its very heavy.

All in all, I am very happy with my purchase. I got plenty of bang for my buck and saved enough money to buy a few accessories….

Helpful Review: I have two Olevia t.v.s 37 – and the 42. the problem you are describing is due to the power protection circuits making sure your tv is protected from a power surge (like when turning it on for example) and while your tv may be a little sensitive to the power spike when first trying to initialize the set, it is actually protecting the t.v. – there is a reset button on the back of each set – you can easily reach it – but it is the same color as the back of the set and is very hard to see at first until you know where it is. – it is near the power cord but recessed – if you just flip the reset button your olevia will power right up!… I first experienced this issue on my 37inch when I disconnected the set and moved it from the bedroom to the living room – 20 feet away, and when the power was first applied it was as if the set was broken, but it was not – upon closer inspection I found the reset rocker switch, flipped it back on and it worked perfectly again. I suspect this is a common issue after reading some of the more negative reviews, but i noticed no one mentoned the “reset” button on the back of each Olevia set.

Note: I also use a regulated power supply now and have seen the incoming voltage in my area vary from 115 volts to 124 volts.

Great Tv! – S. Salazar –
Had this tv for 3 years already and working great still. When bought tv wasnt sure becasue never heard of brand before but ended up being great.

Works Great – K. Nordhus –
I’ve had mine for almost two years with no problems at all. I found it to be very easy to set up, the picture and sound quality is also very good. And the price was excellent! It does seem like quite a few people have experienced problems with this brand but so far it’s worked great for me.

OLEVIA FILED FOR BANKRUPTCY!!! – A. Hyde – Birmingham, AL USA
I saw in a local Wal-Mart ad that they were featuring a 32″ TV of another brand for 0. In the aisle in front of the electronics department was this television for 0. A larger screen for less? How could I not? When the cashier was ringing me up, he asked if I wanted to buy the extended warranty on it. I believe this is the first time I’ve ever bought the extended warranty on it and, at the moment, I’m relieved that I did.

I have now had the TV for one year. About six weeks ago, my TV turned off on its own…I turned it back on. About 30 minutes later, it did the same thing…turned it back on. Ever since, it does the same thing. Occasionally it will turn off and turn back on about 5 seconds later only to show a dropped cable signal.

I contacted Olevia’s support line through their website and was informed that I should try to take certain steps to ensure that there was not a problem with the power supply. The representative then told me that otherwise it would be a problem with the mother board and that Olevia was now bankrupt and could not honor the manufacturer’s warranty as they had now been bought out and the warranty was voided. I then informed the rep that I bought the extended warranty through Wal-Mart and he told me that I would have to wait until the manufacturer’s warranty (….that was now voided?) ran out to try to get it repaired through Wal-Mart.

I am going through the steps to do so. If you find a television through this company and you just can’t pass up the price, BUY THE EXTENDED WARRANTY!!!!

Helpful Review: Our Olevia is 6 years old, in use everyday and still has a great picture. When we purchased it, it was half the price of the Samsungs and Sonys of the same size and the picture looked better! Its a 720p and the eye can’t tell the difference of 1080p until you get to 37″. It doesn’t have as many inputs as today’s TVs do, it only has a DVI input, not an HDMI and 2 component inputs (one HD and one 480p) as well as a cable input. I’ve used a PS3 with it as well as a Dish HD receiver. When we had cable, I used a splitter and connected one input to the HD component inputs and another to the cable and thus enabled its picture-in-a-picture function. The picture is vivid and sharp. If you can find one of these gems, I recommend buying it for a small room or bedroom.  Read more helpful reviews

I bought this tv to surprise my husaband when he returned from the Middle East. We had it 2 years. It now goes black all the time. I’m a Television Consumer reporter and would never recommend this TV. It didn’t have that many bad reviews two years ago, but it does now. Do Not Buy This TV! Read the reviews. Works for awhile and then goes black. Invest in something better. It will eventually break on you too.

Helpful Review: Wow, the best 12 Million and change I have ever spent. The colors are so lifelike!! I mean considering that I could probably get the actors from my favorite shows and movies to perform them live in my own living room for less money than the cost of this TV, the next best thing would be to buy this TV. The contrast ratio is improperly stated in the specs listed on here. The contrast ratio is actually eleventy billion to one!! That means that the dark scenes actually create miniature black holes in your living rooms which go around sucking all bits of lights that might interfere with your viewing experience, even though these same black holes sucked my newborn out of the crib and probably deposited it in some other dimension this only heightened my viewing enjoyment!
The only downfall is that I had a hard time finding a bracket that would fit it. The only solution I could find was to buy two homeless guys to hold it up at the desired pitch and angle for optimum viewing.

Value – Not Telling –
This looks like a great Television and all, but I wouldn’t spring on it so fast. A little birdie told me that for ,000,000 Mitsubishi Electric can build you a 71-foot-tall, 79-foot-wide LED screen. Turner Field has one. That would leave you around 2,000,000 to buy every blu-ray dvd in existence. (yes you could do that).

But don’t take my word for it. Spend your money how you want. I mean, It does have a nice sleek design, I’ll give it that.

Rather small for a 747 at .5 million – Evel Enivel – Tampa, FL USA
I was so happy when UPS flew the item to my door. My very own 747i. The “i” stands for “incredible!” Of course, I was expecting a much larger 747 than the one I received… 747s are usually slightly bigger than 47 inches diagonally… I hopped in the cockpit and broke the screen. Still, by saving .8 million, marked down from .3 million…by Grapthar’s hammer… What a savings.

Look at the savings! you are saving .7 million – S. Oh – New York, NY
This TV is one that I can not afford. But it’s got to have an awesome quality clocking at 12 million dollars. And the saving that Amazon is giving? 3.7 million. There is no other item that Amazon sells that gives that much saving.

Value – Not Telling –
This looks like a big TV and all, but I did not spring so quickly. A little bird told me that for $ 10000000 Mitsubishi Electric to build a 71 meters high, 79 meters wide LED screen. Turner Field has a. Who would leave approximately 2000000, all Blu-ray DVD to buy existing. (yes, it is possible or not).

But do not take my word. Spend your money as you want. I mean, have a pleasant and elegant design, I want it that way.

Rather small for a 747 at .5 million – Evel Enivel – Tampa, FL USA
I was so happy when the UPS has flown the position at my door. My 747th own. The "I" stands for "incredible!" Obviously I expected a much larger than the 747 that I received … 747 are slightly larger than 47 inches diagonally … I jumped in the cockpit and broke the screen. Again, from $ 3.8 million, marked by 16.3 million U.S. dollars … Hammer Grapthar's … What a savings.

Look at the savings! you are saving .7 million – S. Oh – New York, NY
This device has one, who can not afford. But there must be a quality are impressive clock to 12 million U.S. dollars. And it is the salvation that give Amazon? 3.7 million euros. There is no other element that Amazon sells that is saving a lot.

Helpful Review: Now, let me start by saying that I have owned several TV, Sony … Im pretty customers until Olevia !!!!!!!!!!
Was an owner of Sony, it is sometimes difficult to achieve a higher level on television, but my Bravia 42 "to find the toillet last year. I thought a bit 'to see, to see how the technology developed within the HD. I did not come Olevia as an option, but instead of trying. Brief History:
After my Sony Bravia TV went into the trash (this was my bedroom TV), I have a TV for myBedroom, so the same day he was dead, I went to the shop to buy a TV again. I was ready for another Sony, but I went to see some ciggys Walmart and decided to see what they have to offer in the television market. In the Sony store, a customer, the purchase of Walmart, I was rather risky, but hey, I've killed a glance. During the review of the TV, I saw, Sharp, Panasonic, and some brands I never heard, and I came across this TV Olevia. Initially I have not heard of this brand before, but readingthe product description on the package, so I thought, can not be that bad, and I was looking for a transition-TV, the price was tempting. I went and bought it without the extended warranty or anything. Ok, it was difficult to TV, unlike all the other Sony TV that I've ever had with a Trinitron 36''Ich have long ago. Well, in short, this TV "that lasted more than a year with flawless performace with HDMI inputs and SVIDIEO. … Stunning photos on the S-Video connection, butBown was with the HDMI port. Are very demanding when it comes to display photos too, the TV is not 1080p, the 1080i is incredible output quality picture and sound you get blown! If you find this model a good price … Not regret it !!!!!

Great for the price! – D. Fantasia –
Bought for 799 sell to one days after Thanksgiving. The price was good and it was 2006 when we bought, it is 2.5 years. Last year the TV is gone and we do not know what to do. I think we have some games under a pile of dust. Down In any case, it was easy to make the TV "and replace the fuse, even if the only place that has a Radio Shack, because it is a strange format. Since then, no problem since we connected, where a battery backup-box, that the conditionsline. For the price was great, but has improved the contrast and the 1080th was the only one available at that time. 1080i is outdated, and the 1000:1 contrast is old school, with conditions and over 1,000,000:1. Amazing as it is day with no regrets here.

Great Value – B. Meyer – Minneapolis, MN
I had this set for almost 3 years. During this time, I never had a problem that was not my fault, and even these were easy fixes. For an entry-LCD in this series, most have all the characteristics of those who would, above all, looks good! That said, it stops looking great, after a few years and learn more about the limits of market entry-level LCD. If you really look at it, is all that you get an HD display simple, without many bellsand pipes.

Pro
– Display for the Grand Prix
– Easy to use
– Remote is easy
– Built-in tuner is ready for the TV out of the box
– A lot of input
– Upgrading the firmware
– In-house (as long as at least yet)

Cons:
– Lack of options in the settings
– Very slowly
– Ugly
– Lots of lighting
– Bad Contrast Ratio
– Take forever to scrollInputs
– Do not pass 5.1 or better through optical audio —
– The speakers are pretty bad

All in all, if this is your first HDTV, you'll be happy. If they are very picky about screen, it will be very happy. As I said, I have this set for almost three years and I have nothing but happy, it's just time for an update along with a breeder.
